Philly Cheese Steak Sloppy Joes – a tasty, crowd favorite sandwich made with ground beef, onions, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce and other seasonings, and served on a hamburger bun. Perfect for parties, tailgates, game day or backyard barbecues. Easy, tasty and irresistible!
Game day is getting closer and with that in mind , I have been making lots of appetizers for the big day. Don’t care much for the game though -it’s all about the food . And what is better than watching a good show over sumptuous party food and beers. I can still remember the first time I tried sloppy joes at home . I fell into the “sloppy joe’s trap”. And from then on, I never looked back. Once you get a bite of these bad boys – you will want to make it all the time .
There are so many variations of Sloppy Joes, but did you guys know Sloppy Joes said to originate way back 1930s. According to an article on Wikipedia, the said term is referred to “loose” (syn. sloppy, baggy, loose-fitting) meat sandwiches” sold in Sioux City, Iowa made by a cook named Joe. Thus the name, Sloppy Joe’s. Just some history I thought to share , for those that are curious .
As you can see below, this hamburger sandwich here doesn’t sport your regular intact flat cake of minced meat or patty (like this South African favorite Vetkoek). Instead, it is filled with loose minced meat with noticeable presence of diced green bell peppers, onions and some saucy cheesy goodness – a popular variation of Sloppy Joes.
This Philly Cheese Steak Sloppy Joes has a mouthful of flavors even on your first bite. It’s tangy, a bit spicy and sweet, cheesy – all complementing well to create such a sinfully tasty dish!
Yesss, it’s sinful in a way that it could skyrocket your cholesterol level while weakening your self-control to grab your third or fourth sandwich. You should try the sloppy joes’ magic yourself. 😉
Yeah, so take it moderately, folks. But I must say, it’s utterly irresistible!
If you want to cut back a little bit on carbs, you can always substitute the buns for burrito wraps or tortillas. Adjust the taste and seasonings according to your preference.
Serve it with chips and fries. Oh, and don’t forget to grab some bottle of beers while chowing down on this. It’ll be a perfect game day meal!
Tips and Notes:
- Use a large skillet to brown the beef as the beef browns better when it’s not crowded.
- Do not substitute Worcestershire sauce to any other kind of sauce as it is the main flavor component of this recipe.
- You may use shredded provolone or mozzarella or a combination of both.
