Rum Punch – sweet and vibrant tropical drink with layers of multiple rum flavors, pineapple juice and orange juice. An easy to make summer drink that can also be enjoyed all year round!

Rum Punch

As much as I love to be at the beach right now and just enjoy the beach vibes, I’d pretty much prefer to stay at home for now and enjoy the simple joy of staycation. Luckily, these tropical drinks can be easily made at home. So to kickoff the summer heat and celebrate Father’s Day this coming Sunday, I’ve made this Rum Punch for you guys and gals! 😉

What is Rum Punch Made Of?

Have you ever wondered what the origin of your favorite summer drink rum punch? Well, rum punch was invented during the 17th century as an alternative to beer by shipmen who worked for the the British East India Company. It found its way to Britain where it became a party staple drink made with rum, citrus and spices served in massive punch bowls.

As you probably know, there are TONS of version of rum punch and its even known as rum runner in some tropical places. This version here uses blended fresh pineapples, fresh orange juice, spiced and white rum, grenadine syrup and lime juice for that distinct tart flavor.

What Kind of Rum Goes in Rum Punch?

This recipe features 2 types of rum, but if you check on most recipes, a rum punch would usually follow this traditional proportion: one of sour, two of sweet, three of strong and four of weak. A common set of rum punch ingredients could be this: lime juice for sour, pineapple juice (and/or orange juice) and grenadine syrup for sweet, rum for strong and ice or water for weak.

Below are just most of the commonly used rums in a rum punch:

  • White Rum
  • Spiced Rum
  • Coconut Rum
  • Flavored rum (pineapple, mango, etc.)
  • Dark rum

Rum Punch

What Else Can I Mix with Rum?

  • honey, lemon, red liqueur such as Campari
  • strawberry lemonade and white rum
  • nutmeg, orange curacao
  • ginger ale and dry ginger
  • coconut water
  • cranberry juice
  • grapefruit juice

You see, there are a lot of possibilities with rum. You can almost add anything you like in it – be it in a 2 types of rum or 4 types of rum mixture.
