Make your own Easy Homemade Guacamole using fresh high-quality ingredients for a fool-proof, irresistible, creamy Guac that doesn’t contain any fillers or added preservatives. Plus, see more tips below on how to keep it from turning brown!

Homemade Guacamole

I don’t usually use big words here on the blog, but when it comes to this guacamole dip, I’ll have to say that this is by far the BEST guacamole recipe  I’ve tasted in years!

My cousins and friends keep asking for the recipe after they attend one of my parties here at home. But actually, there’s nothing funny or “extra something” in this healthy dip. My secret is choosing the right avocado for your Guac and fresh, simple, yet high-quality ingredients for an irresistible creamy dip that will make you coming back for more.

Whether you’re bored or just want more healthy stuff going into your body, this one right here is what you’re looking for!

Guacamole

Guacamole Ingredients

You only need Eight (8) Simple Ingredients to make this Mexican avocado-based dip or spread. No sour cream. No mayonnaise. None of that stuff – just fresh and healthy ingredients!

  • Ripe Avocados – These creamy fruits with a nutty and buttery taste. You’ll enjoy it as it is or as an ingredient for flavorful dishes to balance everything out.
  • Lime Juice – Extracted from fresh limes. this has comparatively higher sugars and acids than lemon
  • Garlic – Whether you use it fresh, dried, or powdered, this gives your whole dish a mouthwatering aroma. Check out this easy guide to properly cut garlic.
  • Cilantro – Also known as coriander. the leafy part of the plant is what we know as cilantro. The taste of this ingredient varies from person to person. I suggest trying it out first before adding.
  • Cumin – has earthy, pungent, and mildly bitter taste but makes any dish flavorful
  • Serrano Pepper – These little peppers packs a lot of heat when you bite into them. It’s hotter than a jalapeno with a more vibrant and greener flavor.
  • Onion – This veggie is great served fresh with its tangy flavor. I personally love it slightly caramelized for a bit of sweetness. These easy steps on how to cut onion should help you with this dish.
  • Tomato – It’s a fruit! but it most certainly goes well with savory dishes. Check this tutorial on how to properly cut tomatoes.

Eight without including salt and pepper to taste. And that’s just about it!

How to Pick the Right Avocado for your Guac?

The best guacamole lies in picking the right avocado as it is what this recipe is all about.

  • Firm to Touch. Pick the ripe avocados that are still firm to touch – not too firm and not too soft as well. You want it ripe, but not over-ripe. We don’t want a mushy guac, please!
  • To choose the right avocado, look if the stem is still attached. If it’s removed, it’s more likely to have brown spots on the inside.
  • Then, gently press it one end. If it doesn’t have a little give to it, then it’s too firm for you to buy it.

Recipe Variations

There are actually plenty of variations to this guacamole recipe. But like I always say, don’t let anyone tell you what to add or not to. Feel free to customize the recipes you find online, and put your own stamp on it. But if you’re not yet confident with your skills, it doesn’t hurt (or cost a penny) to stick to this recipe. 😉

Here are some of the variations that you can make to this recipe.

  • Replace Cilantro with Chives: If you’re not a fan of cilantro, you may skip it. Or replace it with chives instead.
  • Top with Fruits: For a fun fruity twist, top this guacamole here with well-drained mango or pineapple salsa. Or how about adding some crunch to it using diced green apples? Pomegranate seeds seem to be a popular add-on, too.
  • Prepare the Tomatoes: Roast your tomatoes instead or put in sun-dried tomatoes for that extra flavor.
  • Add Some Greens: Get a dose of greens in this dip by adding kale.
  • Add a bit of meat in it: Of course, anything is great with bacon. So why not add some bacon bits into this dip to make it extra special!

Storing Homemade Guacamole

Keep it Green

  • Add 1 tsp of Fresh Lime Juice. The last thing we want in this creamy dip is for it to turn brown. That is indeed a big turn off! Adding an extra teaspoon of fresh lime juice into the mix is said to slow down the browning process.

Storing

  • Left Overs. To store any leftover guac or if you’re making it ahead, store it in an airtight container or cover it with a plastic wrap against the surface of the guacamole to prevent oxidization. Another trick that I also learned from my friend is to add the pit (that chunky seed in the middle) into the guacamole dip.
  • Fridge. What I’d usually do is to pat the guacamole down and smoothen out its surface. Then add that extra teaspoon of lime juice over the guacamole surface and cover it with plastic wrap (pushing it onto the surface) to prevent air pockets. Finally, cover the tub with the lid and store it in the fridge for 2 days.

This is IF you’re lucky enough to have any leftovers. Coz here at home, we always have zero guacamole leftover!

Tortilla Chips with Guacamole

What to Eat with Guacamole?

You can serve this with anything you want. But most of the time, guacamole is served with corn chips, or check out my Homemade Tortilla Chips! You may also serve it with vegetable sticks, crackers, or as a topping to these twice-fried plantains aka Tostones, then also with quesadillas, taquitos, nachos, and most of your favorite Mexican food!
